Girls and women deserve much healthier media images than what we get - it hurts all of us to have such a restricted standard of "beauty" and "ideal." UGH.

The Healthy Media for Youth Act is a Girl Scouts-supported bill that seeks to address this. It would do three things: encourage media literacy programs for youth; facilitate research on the health effects of media; and call for the adoption voluntary standards for more girl-positive media.

To support this bill, you can visit girlscouts4girls.org and send a letter of support to your Representative! Let's make sure that the future of girls doesn't involve the same experiences of Coco Rocha and countless other women!Stephhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04227187328527108410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3084640879422569374.post-13153442085149921962010-04-12T13:46:10.137-07:002010-04-12T13:46:10.137-07:00There is something so disturbing about clothes for...There is something so disturbing about clothes for women being marketed through images of bodies that aren't allowed to look fully developed.

I keep noticing that often "plus size" models are just real size women. Who are they selling too, because no 'normal' person can actually fit into the clothes they are designing. I mean if Coco Rocha is too big for their clothing, then what chance do we all have? They need to feel happy with who they are- their uniqueness. I don't want them to fall in the same trap that these models do- not eating to feel accepted. Somehow we need to teach girls self worth and to take a stand against these false messages of beauty.Bowmanh23https://www.blogger.com/profile/01465763505879442250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3084640879422569374.post-22745298066349519032009-11-11T17:40:30.646-08:002009-11-11T17:40:30.646-08:00I was really happy with my pregnancy angels. P...Hi cd,
So glad you found our blog and our book.

Pregnancy does present an opportunity to appreciate the power of our bodies in a whole new light, but that doesn't make us immune to the incredible amount of pressure to have the perfect-sized bump during pregnancy and shed all the baby weight five minutes after giving birth. Those messages are fed to us constantly. And then there's the double whammy of pressure women put on themselves--feeling "guilty" or "selfish" if they're suffering with body image issues while pregnant and as new moms. It's no wonder we sometimes feel at war with our bodies.Magali and Clairehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13315607889491741409noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3084640879422569374.post-76446557243369082652009-09-30T12:10:55.998-07:002009-09-30T12:10:55.998-07:00Hi, I just found your site via a link on Jezebel. ...Hi, I just found your site via a link on Jezebel. Couldn't have found it - or the link to your book - at a better time. I'm 16 weeks and have had a, shall we say, interactive relationship with my weight all my life.

I though pregnancy would be the great body equalizer, but all it takes is one look at the sales and brand tags on Pea in the Pod clothing to recognize that, no, we should still be stick think with just a rightly-apportioned bump in the front. Which goes away completely when the baby comes out.

The word that most comes to mind for my pregnant body: war.cdhttp://phetus.phoblographer.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3084640879422569374.post-63947196114839477012009-09-29T19:55:05.787-07:002009-09-29T19:55:05.787-07:00Bridget is right on with her comments. But I have to say, I know women who manage to look even better after having a baby--mostly breastfeeding mamas who begin paying more attention to nutrition and exercise after baby because it's necessary. These are not all Type A personality women putting unrealistic pressure on themselves. It takes a lot of effort though.

I agree that it's unrealistic for most women to imagine that we all should or can "get the prebaby body back" after pregnancy...it'll never be the same. Even if you manage to look better, a postbaby body probably can't be nearly as firm as before...and that's ok!zoinkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15566757739908323565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3084640879422569374.post-53673527801763936412009-08-17T10:43:25.342-07:002009-08-17T10:43:25.342-07:00Ask for help when I need it.
